BIOGRAPHY
Born in 1989 at Porto. He completed the interpretation course at the ACE in 2007 and, as part of his training, participated in several workshops and shows with António Capelo, João Paulo Costa, Kuniaki Ida, the Peripécia Teatro, Les Plasticiens Volants, among many others.
As a musician, he started on 2003 with traditional Galician percussion with Maria Xosé Lopez Vilar, held masterclasses with different names in the international panorama such as the Indian Trilok Gurtu or the Iranian Farzad Andalibi, among others. In 2010 he started studying classical percussion with professor Joaquim Alves; In 2011, he had drum lessons with Hugo Danin and in 2012 he completed his 5th degree at the Regional Conservatory of Music in Gaia with professor Paulo Costa. In 2019 he finishes his degree in classical percussion, at the University of Minho, with professor Nuno Aroso - where he held masterclass with percussionists Mark Braafhart and Filippo Lattanzi. Still at the university, he was supervised by conductors Francesco Belli, Nick Ost and Gerardo Estrada in the Orchestra of the University of Minho. He currently has regular drum lessons with professor Marcos Cavaleiro and Leandro Leonet, Indian tabla lessons with Guru Ji Pandit Kishore Banerjee and he is having online course of framedrum lapstyle with middle east percussionist Yshai Afterman,
As teacher, he guided a percussion group from 2008 to 2013 at the institution CERCIAG (Cooperative for Education and Rehabilitation of Citizens with Disabilities in Águeda).
In 2014, he guided a percussion group at the Augusto Gil School, in Porto. He also taught traditional Galician-Portuguese percussion in various parts of the country, such as Penafiel, Viseu and Porto, and taught in the 1st official course (professional course) of Traditional Portuguese Percussion at the Academia de Artes de Chaves and at the Limina school, a project by percussionist Nuno Aroso. He is currently teaching at the Cardo-Amarelo school, in Porto, and online on a private basis.
As a percussionist and performer, he has edited 28 albums; participated, recorded and stepped on stage with numerous artists and projects, among which stand out Mário Lúcio & os Kriols, Teresa Salgueiro, Nancy Vieira, Lura, António Chainho, Gisela João, Marta Pereira da Costa, Fred, Retimbrar, Cardo Roxo, Manuel Maio, Manuel Cruz, Maria Monda, Cristina Clara, SJM Chamber Choir, Pé na Terra (of which he is co-founder), Fanfare Káustica, U.Minho Orchestra, Orquestra Sem Fronteiras, Toque de Caixa, Gambuzinos and Senza. In 2019, the work "Tu Es Petrus", for ensemble and choir, by Eurico Carrapatoso, premiered in a concert at the Church of São Francisco, in Évora.
In his own name, he has already premiered, in recital, a series of works by the composers Fernando Lapa and Ângela da Ponte, in which he explores the universe of traditional Portuguese music, in an erudite approach, mixing instruments of popular origin - such as the adufe or the trancanholas - and other contemporaries, namely the vibraphone and diverse multipercussion.
He has already performed in several European countries - Italy, France, Germany, Belgium, Serbia, Croatia, Luxembourg, Poland, Slovenia, Spain and has given hundreds of concerts throughout Portugal (mainland and islands); in Africa it has already performed in South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Reunion Island, Cape Verde and Morocco and in the Asian continent it has performed in China, Dubai, India and East Timor. On the American continent, he has already performed in Brazil.
This year he directed and composed music for the theater piece "Lear" staged by Bruno Martins. A co-production between Teatro do Bolhão, Teatro Didascália in partnership with Teatro Dona Maria II.
He has also just edited a book, together with Napoleão Ribeiro and supported by DGARTES - Ministry of Culture, on the musical culture of Zés Pereiras between Douro and Minho regions.
